Rugby, a game with more rules than the Geneva Convention, a game of physicality and skill, a game where every position requires a different skill set – Now ask the question who would possibly try to recreate such a game as a pc management game? They surely would fail miserably, well the boys at Blackout Rugby not only have created a Rugby management game but they have recreated the beautiful (if complicated) sport magnificently.
In the Beginning:
You start with a club, 25 players, a small stadium and a big confused head – why the confusion you may ask? Well you see you find you have 25 players but none of them have predefined positions to play – At this point 75% of people will click the x button and say never again (too complicated) however for those who decide to print off their squad and look at each players physical attributes and individual skills you have become addicted – you are now invested in what is the most addictive yet most rewarding and frustrating (due to the feelings you experience when your team loses) gaming experience. You select your team, you have your 100kg+ front rowers picked out, you have your tall guys selected for your second row and you have your killer half back pairing. Hours have passed and you have your training set, you have your coaches hired now all you await is gameday when you and your team can start their climb for national supremacy.
After a few weeks you start to realise your players are not as good as you think, now the real management and debt to the game starts! You start to rebuild your team – you hit the transfer market to build a squad capable of taking you to the next level, do you buy old journeymen or do you buy young and train! Do you invest in your own youth setup and train from within – do you convert that 120kg 17 year old beast into a centre… My point is that unlike most games, the Choice is yours! You are almost 100% in control of your clubs destiny. You can play a forward orientated game or play a back orientated game… You decide.
Blackout Rugby also promotes a sense of national pride, every country in the game has it’s national side with World Cups, Six Nations etc all played, Who manages the national sides – Also you decide, as a community you decide who selects and manages the best players your nation has to offer, if your training facilities are up to it you may even find one of your players selected to play for either the U20 or Senior National team OR you may decide to train another nations player (Treason)
Blackout Rugby is a management simulator that is both a rewarding and rich experience, my advice to any who join – Don’t be part of those who dismiss it because it asks you think from the start, pick your team, select your tactics and let this game give you the years of enjoyment you want from a game.
